A proposal for a new institute in the city of Sharjah, this project brings together a complex of buildings to create a community setting that nurtures the growth of a new culture within the UAE that is food oriented. Each building varies in terms of its program to provide a rich and diverse set of circumstances for students and teachers of the culinary arts, restaurant goers, shoppers, and foodies. The ingredients are mostly grown on campus using hydroponic farms that are located within the greenhouses on the roofs.
The buildings are constructed using adobe brick, which is formed and fired locally, with thick cantilevering concrete slabs. The most significant aspect of the proposal is the exterior conditions created between, under, adjacent, and above the four buildings. Informal market, gardens, trees, benches and streams all tie the complex together and link it to the Sharjah corniche and the water beyond.
